New York Times

Are grammar and spelling becoming sloppy in the New York Times? Aren't the major newspapers supposed to have an editorial process that helps to make them somehow better than blogs? Anthony Tommasini's review of Wagner's Götterdämmerung at the Metropolitan Opera says, "Instead of continually twisting into different contortions, as in earlier installments, the set remained stationery during extended scenes." Was the set made from envelopes and staples? And at one point "Ms. Voigt's character lashes out at Siegfried, whom she thinks has betrayed her . . ." "Whom" of course should be nominative "who" as subject of verb "has betrayed." She thinks he has betrayed her, not she thinks him has betrayed her!
